Meet Our Host & Facilitator!

Sophie Rayner-Grignon

ECE Community Advisor & Facilitator

Sophie (She/They) is a queer, heavily tattooed, and creative educator living and working on the Unceded Territory of the Algonquin Peoples in a city known as Ottawa, ON.

Her first experiences and connections to caring for young children started with babysitting. While volunteering in a special needs program in Japan, Sophie decided to give Early Childhood Education a shot and applied to school back home in Canada. Eventually, with experience, she moved to private home care during the summer while studying early childhood education at Algonquin College. Graduating with Honours in 2014, Sophie has been in the sector as a Registered Early Childhood Educator RECE ever since. The majority of her career has been working with young parents and their infants and toddlers in Non-Profit Centre based Subsidised Licensed Child Care. Sophie is all about Infant care and play - using her creativity to plan intentional programming for the youngest learners as a passionate play partner is one of her absolute favourite parts of being an ECE!

Recently moving into an Early Literacy and Parenting Educator position, Sophie gets to show off her passions for parenting, play, diverse books, and early learning every day! In addition to being an educator, Sophie is a loving spouse, cat caregiver, and active neighbour & volunteer in her cooperative housing community!
